I got a message that I won’t be charged for data when streaming. What does this mean?
If you’re a DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Wireless customer, streaming most DIRECTV NOW movies and programs over the AT&T wireless network won't count against your data usage allowance.1 It’s one of the many benefits of being an AT&T and DIRECTV NOW customer.1DIRECTV NOW customers and select wireless customers only. Available only in the U.S. (excludes Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands). Streaming does not count against your data allotments. Exclusions: App download may incur data usage/charges. Yes, DIRECTV NOW programs currently do not count against your data allowance. While we don’t expect it to occur, some advertisements could count against your usage allowance. Certain other data (metadata and background data such as program details and images) will count against your allowance. Additional activities that will count against your data allowance include: Browsing or searching for shows, viewing Settings, downloading or updating the app (if using mobility connection).
No. This offer is available to eligible AT&T Mobility customers in the United States only. Not available in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. International roaming is not included in this offer and data charges will apply.
If you’re an eligible AT&T Wireless customer, you must also subscribe to the DIRECTV NOW service and download the DIRECTV NOW app. We’ll take care of the rest. We reserve the right to change this offer at any time. We will provide advance notice if we discontinue this offer.
Yes. You will not incur data usage while streaming content if you have:
- A postpaid wireless plan from AT&T.
- A smartphone or tablet.
- A connection to an AT&T Mobile Hotspot.
- DIRECTV NOW app.
Other streaming devices including Apple TV and Amazon Fire Stick, do not qualify for data free streaming using an AT&T Mobile Hotspot.
The free viewing feature won’t affect the quality of your video. The DIRECTV NOW app uses video optimization technology to provide a better streaming experience, and content is commonly view-able in Standard Definition quality. This is consistent with all streams in the app, however, and is not related to data free viewing.
There is no additional cost to you. It is DIRECTV’s way to say “thank you” for being a DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Mobility customer.
No. Currently, this offer applies to content you view while signed in to the DIRECTV NOW app only.
Content viewed within the DIRECTV NOW app does not count towards the 22GB monthly threshold. But, once your threshold is met and you are in a congested area, network management will apply to content delivered by the DIRECTV NOW app, just like all other content delivered by the AT&T wireless network.
Content viewed within the DIRECTV NOW app will not count towards your Mobile Share Advantage data plan allotment. However, if you reach your data allotment and you’ve exhausted your Rollover Data and any other high speed allotments, all data usage will be slowed to 128 Kbps for the remainder of your bill cycle. You will not be able to stream video during this time. If you want more high speed data, you can change your plan.
Yes, you can see how much data you saved every month by looking for the Data Free DIRECTV NOW line item on your AT&T wireless bill.
