DIRECTV NOW sound and video issues on Android devices

DIRECTV NOW is supported on various AndroidTM devices.  Please refer to Devices and Browsers for the most current list.

If the DIRECTV NOW app launches on your Android device, but plays sound or no video, or plays them out of sync, try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Sound issues only - double check the sound setting on your device.
  2. Restart your Android device.
  3. Check for DIRECTV NOW app updates.
  4. Check for Android updates.
  5. Close and restart the DIRECTV NOW app.

If still experiencing issues, try the following:

  1. Launch the Play Store on your device.
  2. In the search box, type DIRECTV NOW.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select DIRECTV NOW from the search results.
  5. Choose the Uninstall button.
  6. When prompted, select OK.
  7. After the app uninstalls, select Install. The app downloads and installs.
  8. Select Open to launch the app.

Streaming issues can also happen when your device’s memory is almost full. Here’s how to check your device’s memory.

  1. In your GoogleTM search bar, type Settings and press Enter.
  2. Select the Settings app.
  3. Select the Storage option. Storage displays how many items you have installed on your device.
  4. If your memory is almost full, try uninstalling apps you no longer need.
  5. Launch the DIRECTV NOW app.

Make sure your Android device is connecting to the Internet. To test your connection, launch another app that uses the Internet on your device. If other apps do not connect there may be an issue with your device, mobile data, or Wi-Fi connection.

Disable your Wi-Fi on your device to determine if you are able to log in using your wireless carrier.

  1. In your your Google search bar, type Settings and press Enter.
  2. Select the Settings app.
  3. Choose the Wi-Fi option.
  4. Turn Wi-Fi to off using the slider at the top of the menu.
  5. Test your connection to DIRECTV NOW again.

If other devices in your household are unable to connect to the Internet and your mobile device is able to access the app on your wireless mobile data, check with your Internet Service Provider for support.

  1. In your Google search bar, turn on Settings and press Enter.
  2. Select Settings from the Apps section.
  3. Choose the Wi-Fi option.
  4. Ensure that Wi-Fi is on. If it is not, move the slider at the top of the menu to the on position.
  5. If you are currently connected to the Internet, the topmost Wi-Fi network in the list displays as Connected.
  6. If you aren't connected or wish to connect to a new network, select the named network from the list available.
  7. If needed, enter the password.
  8. If you're unable to login to the network, check with the administrator to be sure you have the correct password.
