DIRECTV NOW sound issues on Roku

Anthony Diaz -

If you can see the video from your Roku device (or player) on your television but cannot hear the associated audio, try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Check the volume level and mute settings on your TV. Make sure mute is OFF and the volume setting is at an audible level.
  2. Check for snug composite cable audio connectors at both ends. Composite audio cables generally have a red or white connector.
  3. Connect the Roku player to a different input (ideally one you know works) and see if you can now hear audio.
  4. Try changing the cable.
  1. Make sure the correct input is selected on your A/V receiver.
  2. Check the volume level and mute settings on your television and the master volume level on the A/V receiver. Make sure mute is OFF and that the volume setting is at an appropriately audible level
  3. Check that any composite cable audio connectors between your Roku player, the A/V receiver, the A/V receiver, and the TV are all snugly attached.
  4. Connect the Roku player to a different input on the A/V receiver (ideally one you know works) and see if you can now hear audio.
  5. Try changing the cables, one at a time.
  1. Try changing the audio mode to Dolby Digital.
  2. Press Home on your remote control.
  3. Scroll down to Settings > Audio and then set HDMI and S/PDIF to Dolby D (Dolby Digital).
  1. Confirm that your device supports the provider’s 5.1 surround format (e.g. Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, etc.).
  2. Press Home on your remote control.
  3. Scroll down to Settings > Audio.
  4. Set Audio mode to Stereo.
  5. Set HDMI to PCM-Stereo.
Note: On Roku players with a S/PDIF connector, you will set HDMI and S/PDIF to PCM-Stereo.
